Born in1908, 2008-2009 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Henri Cartier-Bresson. To mark this occasion, the city of Paris Museum of Modern Art will be mounting an exhibition of his work.

More than just the usual posthumous retrospective, it’s the recreation of a show he himself organized in 1978 that travelled around Europe for several years at that time. He called it “Forty Years of Photography” and it’s said to be a very interesting example of an artist assessing his own work.

The show is composed of 70 images, a sort of “Best of” his entire oeuvre and is a perfect example of how Photography exhibitions were organized in the 1970’s. In those days, large format prints (70 X90 cm) were mounted on cardboard and hung unframed.

Exposition runs from June 19 to September 13 2009 at the City of Paris Museum of Modern Art
